Position Summary
The Director of the Office of Conflict Disclosures and Management will work with faculty, staff, and trainees across MSU campus to support them with disclosure of potential conflicts. They will develop strategies for reviewing and managing individual conflicts of interests or commitment to ensure institutional compliance with applicable federal, state, and other regulations and policies. They will keep current on changes to federal and state regulations that might impact conflict of interest review and oversight at the University. The Director will serve as the point of contact for faculty questions, training requirements, and security issues related to conflict of interests. They will successfully communicate and collaborate with external entities such as federal agencies to interpret, apply and comply with regulations. They will work with companies, that faculty/staff are involved in, to assess and manage conflicts; and internal groups, such as other University offices, the Council of Research Deans, and Academic Governance committees, to implement and coordinate strategies for conflict disclosure and management. The Director will work with the faculty comprised Conflict Review Committee to elicit needed information, discuss sensitive information, and develop appropriate solutions for the University community. The Director will be responsible for overseeing the office and establishing programs, assessments, training, and procedures to ensure education in conflict disclosures that meet regulatory requirements and best practices in research conduct. The Director is responsible for submitting conflict management plans to the MSU Board of Trustees for review and approval.
Additional responsibilities include:
oversee a small staff to manage University and governmental conflicts of interest and commitment, research security, and federal responsible conduct of research requirements
develop and implement balanced guidelines, procedures, and policies related to conflicts of all types and clearly communicate them to the faculty, administration, and all individuals involved in the conduct, management, or reporting of research work with stakeholder teams and other campus offices to recommend and lead the implementation of updates in accordance with regulatory changes and University community best practices
ensure effective financial conflict of interest and conflict of commitment training and education activities for university employees and trainees, collect and review faculty, employee, trainee disclosures of significant financial interests and relevant outside commitments
provide regulatory, policy and procedural advice and relevant information to the Conflict Review Committee to inform their review and assessment of reported real or perceived financial conflicts of interest to facilitate the development of management plans
report to internal groups and units and external agencies as necessary and required around the reporting of managed conflicts

Minimum Requirements
The successful candidate will:
have a masters degree
five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in regulatory compliance for an institution of similar size and complexity
experience assisting individuals and institutional committees in regulatory reviews in one or more settings, public speaking, writing and editing abilities; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Desired Qualifications
A Masters degree in Science, Policy, or Technology and experience in basic and clinical research environments is desired. A JD, Ph.D., or knowledge and experience equivalent to that which would be acquired with these degrees, would be beneficial.

a keen attention to detail
success with and comfort in cultural change and re-engineering processes
experience with the development and maintenance of computer database systems, enterprise-wide systems, and significant experience with data analysis
persistent and persuasive approach to challenges and people, an ability to work in environments with ambiguity and uncertainty demonstrated ability to achieve results in a fast paced, deadline-driven environment with multiple priorities and multiple stakeholders
