The role of the Environmental and Regulatory Specialist
is a very critical role supporting GLC´s daily operations. The incumbent provides guidance and technical (SME) support on all aspects related to the environment, pollution, hazardous substances, waste management and legal compliance to enable safe and compliant operation of the plant. The role is a key interface between all functions at the plant and the legal authorities in Hamburg including Hamburg Port Authorities and the Environmental Authorities and provides invaluable support in the permitting process. In addition, it is a critical role in Emergency responses for all environmental events including storm protection and other events that could have an environmental impact. The successful candidate will also play a key role in driving the implementation of the site´s Energy Transition/Net Zero Emissions plans.
What is the role
As the legally authorized person for Pollution control and Incident Management, Water Protection and Energy Management and Energy Efficiency, your key responsibilities will include:
Waste coordination and waste contract management
Pollution/Contamination management
Regulatory contact for key operational regulatory departments
Management of permits, obtaining operational permits and permit changes
Supervision and initiation of public-law environmental contracts in order to create planning security and prevent financial overburdening of the site by official orders.
Monitoring compliance with operating license water protection and soil protection, Emissions law, incident law and ensuring reporting where required
Ensuring compliance with and reporting of Environment related Shell HSSE & SP requirements
Organization, execution and ensure successful external and internal audits (ISO 14001, ISO 50001) authorities monitoring audits, Shell audits.
Driving continuous improvement and optimization
Emergency response role in environmental event and support for incident investigations e.g. oil spills at jetty, gantry, gas leaks etc
What we need from you
This position plays a pivotal role in ensuring compliance against all relevant local & international regulations and ensuring that relevant changes are clearly understood and properly cascaded. Required skills for the role:
Strong HSSE experience
Process Engineering, Technical or Operations background is an advantage
Experience with marine and water related environmental requirements is an advantage
Strong communication skills
Audit experience
Working knowledge of environmental regulations relating to Waste, Water, Soil and Biodiversity

Additionally, this role will have on-call responsibilities to provide environmental support outside of business hours. This may require the need to respond to emergencies and support the Mobile Incident Command Team as the Environment Officer.
