SUMMARY

Bering Straits Native Corporation is currently seeking a qualified Compliance Coordinator. The Compliance Coordinator is responsible for providing a wide range of support in connection with the Small Business Administration and other governmental agencies and departments.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Essential Duties and Responsibilities are intended to present a descriptive list of the range of duties performed for this position, and are

not

intended to reflect all duties performed within the job. Other duties may be assigned.

Coordinates all Small Business Administration and other disadvantaged business agency filings, correspondence and coordination for all subsidiary companies, including 8(a), Joint Venture, Mentor-Protégé, HUBZone and other applications, Bona Fide office certifications, annual updates, business plans, 8(a) Participant Benefits Reports and other required reporting.

Coordinates the completion of all corporate formation filings and updates for parent and subsidiaries.

Coordinates the completion of all required licensing applications, updates and renewals (business, corporate, specialty) for parent and subsidiaries.

Maintains the system for award management (SAM), Dynamic Small Business Search (DSBS), and Dun & Bradstreet currency for all subsidiaries.

Ensures all reports and filings are submitted or dispatched accurately and timely in accordance with agency and corporate requirements. 

Coordinates with other company departments including human resources, finance and operations to ensure compliance with government contracting rules and regulations.

Identifies areas of business where there is a risk of non-compliance and develop policies to reduce that risk in coordination with Corporate Business Compliance Manager.

Assists with development and centralization of databases to track corporate and government compliance.

Informs supervisor of any compliance violations.

Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS - EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION

Required (Minimum) Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent.

Experience drafting correspondence, training materials, and corporate policies.

Working knowledge of the Small Business Administration (SBA) 8(a) Business Development Program Policies and Procedures as well as the SBA.Certify system.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics

Knowledge of basic corporate governance principles, broad knowledge of SBA rules and regulations including the 8(a) Business Development Program, Alaska Native Corporations, and basic contract principles.

Possess a strong desire to expand responsibility and increase experience and knowledge through continuing education. 

Excellent Proficiency with Microsoft Software Suite (Word, Access, Excel, and PowerPoint).

Excellent analytical skills and understanding of implications and complexities of different regulations. 

Ability to work independently and apply sound judgment and reasoning skills to a variety of situations, multi-task and collaborate effectively with other personnel to meet deadlines.

Capable of identifying potential compliance problem areas early on, assessing alternate courses of corrective action and recommending satisfactory solutions.

Strong verbal and written communication, attention to detail, organizational skills, and familiarity with the Small Business Administration, government contracting, corporate documents and compliance concepts.  Able to work with lengthy documents within critical deadlines.

Knowledge of business and management principles involved in company formations, Small Business Administration and other federal agencies’ processes.

Preferred

Bachelor’s degree preferred in the field of Business, Accounting or Legal process.

Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for bending, stooping, sitting, walking or standing for prolonged periods of time; most of time is spent sitting in a comfortable position with frequent opportunity to move about.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work Environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be borne by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. 

Job is performed in an office setting with exposure to computer screens and requires extensive use of a computer, keyboard, mouse and multi-line telephone system. The work described herein is primarily a modern office setting. Occasional travel may be required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

No supervisory responsibilities.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFYING FACTORS

As a condition of employment, may be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening as well as have acceptable reference and background check results.  Must have reliable transportation to/from work.
